Soil chiseling and fertilizer location in sugarcane ratoon cultivation REA
Bianchini,Aloisio; Valadão Junior,Daniel D.; Rosa,Rodrigo P.; Colhado,Frederick; Daros,Rodrigo F..
While the pre-harvest sugarcane burning is a disused practice, green harvest requires changes concerning ratoon cultivation due to the presence of a thick layer of straw. The experiment, conducted in a mechanical green harvesting area cultivated with sugarcane, consisted of two stages: in the first stage, the mechanical straw cutting performance of flat disks with different geometry edges was evaluated, considering two types of disks and 10 replications in a completely randomized design; in the second stage, the effect of soil chiseling on both sides of planting lines, using shanks with straw cutting flat disks, was assessed, as well as fertilizer deposition form. The experimental design in the second stage was completely randomized, with seven treatments...

Soil moisture in forage cactus plantations with improvement practices for their resilience AGRIAMBI
Carvalho,Ailton A. de; Silva,Thieres G. F. da; Souza,Luciana S. B. de; Moura,Magna S. B. de; Araujo,Gherman G. L. de; Tolêdo,Matheus P. S..
ABSTRACT The present study evaluated soil moisture (θ) in forage cactus plantations under resilience practices such as irrigation, mulching and intercropping with sorghum. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with five water availability conditions (0, 8.75, 17.5, 26.25 and 35% of the reference evapotranspiration), and three planting systems: forage cactus exclusive system (PE), forage cactus with mulch (PC) and intercropping between forage cactus and sorghum (PS). Water content was measured until a depth of 0.60 m. Meteorological data were recorded between June 2012 and June 2013. Water content was not affected by different resilience practices and the variation coefficient was low to medium (4.0 to 22.1%). The temporal variation of...

Soil solarization for weed control in carrot PAB
MARENCO,RICARDO ANTONIO; LUSTOSA,DENISE CASTRO.
Soil solarization is a technique used for weed and plant disease control in regions with high levels of solar radiation. The effect of solarization (0, 3, 6, and 9 weeks) upon weed populations, carrot (Daucus carota L. cv. Brasília) yield and nematode infestation in carrot roots was studied in São Luís (2º35' S; 44º10' W), MA, Brazil, using transparent polyethylene films (100 and 150 mm of thickness). The maximum temperature at 5 cm of depth was about 10ºC warmer in solarized soil than in control plots. In the study 20 weed types were recorded. Solarization reduced weed biomass and density in about 50% of weed species, including Cyperus spp., Chamaecrista nictans var. paraguariensis (Chod & Hassl.) Irwin & Barneby, Marsypianthes chamaedrys...

Spatial dependence of attributes of rainfed maize under distinct soil cover conditions AGRIAMBI
Carvalho,Ailton A. de; Montenegro,Abelardo A. de A.; Assis,Fred M. V. de; Tabosa,José N.; Cavalcanti,Roberta Q.; Almeida,Thayná A. B..
ABSTRACT Maize crop under rainfed conditions is widely grown in the Brazilian Northeast on community farms for human and animal consumption. The application of mulch could be adopted to enhance rainwater harvesting and soil moisture levels, although such practice is rarely applied in rainfed cultivation. This study aimed to evaluate the spatial variability of maize productivity, based on soil physical attributes and plant growth and yield, under a rainfed regime in the presence and absence of mulch in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The study was conducted from May to September 2016 in Pesqueira - PE (locality of the Semiarid of Pernambuco State, Northeast, Brazil), during which the development and production of maize in experimental plots were evaluated,...

Straw removal of sugarcane from soil and its impacts on yield and industrial quality ratoons Scientia Agricola
Aquino,Gisele Silva de; Medina,Cristiane de Conti; Silvestre,Danilo Augusto; Gomes,Emerson Crivelaro; Cunha,Ana Carolina Benitez; Kussaba,Deise Akemi Omori; Almeida,Luis Fernando; Shahab,Muhammad; Santiago,Antonio Dias.
ABSTRACT: Mechanical harvesting leaves in its wake a considerable amount of straw in the field, which can be effectively utilized to improve the soil condition and sugarcane yield. However, there is no specific information as to the quantity of straw mulch required to achieve such effects and as to whether it can be used in other sectors for bioelectricity and ethanol production. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of removing different amounts of straw from the field and its impact on the yield and industrial quality of sugarcane ratoons. The experiment was carried out on Rhodic soil where six treatments were evaluated including 0 %, 25 % (5 Mg ha−1), 50 % (10 Mg ha−1), 75 % (15 Mg ha−1), 100 % (20 Mg ha−1) straw on the soil surface and...

Weeds infestation in corn intercropped with forages at different planting densities Planta Daninha
Concenço,G.; Ceccon,G.; Fonseca,I.C.; Leite,L.F.; Schwerz,F.; Correia,I.V.T..
Corn is planted in the Center West region of Brazil as a second crop, following soybeans or beans. Intercropping of Brachiaria species with corn as a second crop increases the mulching in the cropping system. This study aimed to evaluate the weeds infestation in soybeans following corn/forages intercrop, as a function of corn plant structure, forage species and density. Experiments were conducted in a completely randomized blocks design with four replications, in Ponta Porã and Dourados municipalities, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil, in 2010/2011. Treatments consisted of three corn hybrids with distinct plant architectures intercropped with three forage species: Brachiaria ruziziensis, B. brizantha and B.decumbens, at five densities, and the resulting...

Study on the effectmethod of soil moisture conservation method on yield of Jatropha, variety KUBP78-9 grown on Ultic Paleustalf, was carried out in order to compare the effect of no soil moisture conservation scheme (W1), plant residue mulch (W2), vetiver grass grown between Jatropha rows, slash and mulch (W3), and jack beanast cover crop (W4) on moisture changes within soil profile and yield of Jatropha. Drip irrigation at a rate of twolitres per plant was operated every two days during drought season (Dec 09-May 10). Results indicated that plant residue mulch tended to give the highest seed yield at 15% moisture content (200 kg rai-1) compared to the range of 130.9-145.3 kg rai-1 obtained from other treatments. Growing vetiver grass between rows of...
